SEO iPhone Apps – Top 2 essential downloads

Search engine optimizing is a complicated game to be playin’. We make use of various tools in the office such as the SEO MOZ tool kit for analysing pages and keeping track of how we’re ranking for our target keywords with the various regional search engines.

When I’m away from the comfort of a cushy office cheer and computer I still like to keep tabs on my sites and track progress on my latest efforts.  This led me to dig around and find some useful iPhone & iPad apps that can give me a quick update on all my sites.

I tried all the seo related apps I could get my hands on and found 2 that fitted my needs perfectly. First up is the Google Analytics app then a useful keyword rank tracking app:

1. Analytics App – By Inblosam LLC (google analytics)

This is essentially Google analytics on you iPad or iPhone, you can load up multiple analytics accounts and can easily see all the important stuff graphically. There is a charge for this but if time is money this thing should have you breaking even in about 10 mins!!

2. Rankometer 4Google – By Rumpelrausch (keyword rank tracking)

I played with a few different keyword/domain tracking applications and this one was the easiest to quickly setup. It allowed keyword tracking by region which some of the others didn’t (some were USA or the highway which didn’t fit our UK based interests) It is free to load up 1 domain and 2 keywords but we quickly upgraded to the paid version to track all our domains and keywords at a glance. Very handy on those boring bus rides to have a nosey.

If you’ve got an iPhone or iPad i’d recommend you d’load the trial version and give em a go!

Peace out!

Man and Vans Top of Google For “Man and Van”

We’re pleased to say that after about 2 years of SEO work on www.manandvans.com we finally got to the number 1 spot for our main keyword “man and van”.

What do we think pushed us over the edge?

We recently moved the site across from a flat html site which had been set up without very SEO friendly permalink URL structures to a WordPress installation, with keyword-optimised URL names, page titles and page content. We think WordPress rocks for SEO, and creates a great internal link structure by default.

WordCampUK 2010 Round-Up: Day 2, Next stop Wordstock?

Day 2 @ Wordcamp and despite all the best intentions to tear the club up Northern style our 5am start and an intensive saturday learnin’ and networkin’ did bare it’s toll. We did show face at the factory for a few beers and beats but retired to the holiday inn at a fairly conservative 11.30pm. These pimps need their rest!

I was particularly interested in the WP E-commerce plugin talk by Jeff Ghazally so it was probably a good thing we weren’t largin’ it up as there was lots to learn. It sounds like this plugin is going from strength to strength and we’ve just rolled out our first gold cart installation of it @ Mains Fed Water Coolers so far so good!

Buddypress got a big shout out from the WordPress crew @ the wow plugins talk and had us trying to conjure different social network projects we could apply it to, stay tuned!

We originally set off for Manchester as Wordcamp virgin’s and after a weekend packed with the grittier more technical stuff you could say that our cherry has been well and truly popped! We’ll be back next year without a doubt. We were checking out the Los Angeles Wordcamp later this year but i just realised the private jet is getting recoated in gold that weekend. We are going to have a go at hacking the 2010 theme in the upcoming weeks and putting some of our newfound knowledge to use.wordstock

The end of the day wrap up did get a pinch heated as the future of the Wordcamp UK yearly meet up got discussed. No problems with a yearly meet up for the UK but using the Wordcamp UK brand was causing the concern. We quite liked the existing name but if we’re fishing for alternatives hows about Wordstock UK, or Wordfest UK – beware of the code.

WordCampUK 2010 Round-Up: Day 1

The SEO Pimps crew was in attendance at WordCampUK 2010 in Manchester this weekend – it was our first wordcamp, and although we are not specialist coders (yet) we use wordpress as our preferred CMS and in our opinion it is perfect for SEO due to its ease of updating with fresh content (a regularly updated blog or syndicated part of a blog on the front page of any site is a big part of our SEO strategy – especially in light of the mad props Google caffeine seems to be giving to newer fresher content), and creating clean, optimised permalinks and meta tags very simply and in the great structure wordpress provides.

After a very harsh 5AM wake up time to leave from 6.55 at euston (all for the love of the game), we just managed to board on time with fellow pimp Robbie Ingram arriving with 5 minutes to spare. As we crossed the border into “The North” it promptly began pissing down with rain and once off the train we wandered aimlessly lost in the rain for 15 minutes as our flimsy google maps print out got soaked (oh the shame of not having a working Iphone between us (not pimpin) – we’re working on it.

The running order for day one

Eventually hopping into a cab we arrived in time for the introduction by Tony Scott – who has organised the whole event. Maximum props go out to the WordCamp crew for the Factory records-esque design theme running through the signage and logo for the event, and the amazing free wordcamp tshirts in the style of Joy Division’s unknown pleasures album cover, with the slogan “code is poetry” – that shit is tiiight!

The day was started off with a whip around everyone in the room asking everyone their name and what they did with wordpress – an interesting and useful way to find out everyone’s background, and also to be put in our rightful place as development noobs with a lot still to learn in coding.

I’ve broken the summaries for the weekend up into talk-by-talk blogs for all my homies out there – have a read, get to know, leave comments with anything we missed/got wrong… Word! (camp)
